Carved in Mud Studios
This property has been home to clay-making for over twenty years. Before Carved in Mud took up residence here, it was home to Elliot Norman and Bear Paw Pottery. Jennifer and Dan took the separate, 500 sq. ft. in law apartment and converted it into a beautiful shared studio space so they could share this unique property (and all of the clay opportunities it has to offer) with more people. During the pandemic, almost all of the big studios in town had to shut down. They saw a need for a smaller, more intimate studio space that could be scheduled and shared in a safe way.
Jennifer loved her shared studio experience in college...and the creative back and forth among artists working in the same space. It is their hope to serve as a business incubator for clay artists who are launching their careers but are not at a place to purchase all of their own equipment yet. Additionally, Carved in Mud wants to be a place for the throwing or hand-building enthusiast who is simply looking for a safe place to work and have their pieces fired.
The studio offers two spaces for full-time members and up to nine slots (with limited storage) for part-time members. There are three wheels for scheduled use - a Brent C, Brent CXC, and a Shimpo Whisper. Additionally, there is a shared full size work table, a wedging table, a Northstar slab roller, Giffin grip, and more available for use in the studio. We are currently firing to a midfire range in electric kilns. (Cone 10 firing services coming soon!).
